Chefs Reeling in the Rockfish

We may be a farmer-owned company, but as the name of our Georgetown waterfront restaurant suggests – Farmers Fishers Bakers – we are also heavily invested in our country’s fisherman and the amazing fresh fish, and other seafood, they provide to our restaurant. To get to know some of our fisherman, our primary supplier, Congressional Seafood Co, and our local waterways a little bit better, chefs and other team members from our restaurants participated in the 7th Annual Congressional Seafood’s FINvitational.

Led by Vicki Griffith, our Vice President for Quality Assurance & Purchasing, our team headed to Stevensville, MD and spent the day fishing on the Chesapeake Bay aboard the “Dawn Marie,” captained by Jon Motovidlak.

Team Farmers Restaurant Group took 3rd place in the tournament with a 31-inch Chesapeake Bay Rockfish. Chef Oscar Rivera of Founding Farmers DC was the angler responsible for reeling in the award-winning fish.

The purpose of this field trip was to get better acquainted with our fisherman and suppliers, gain some insider information about our local fresh seafood and the waterways around our home, and also meet many local vendors and organizations working to educate our communities about the bay and its preservation.

Now, of course, when we serve rockfish as our fish of the day, some of our chefs will know personally where, and how, it was caught, and they can share their fishing tales with the rest of our kitchen teams.
