Armed with our award-winning craft spirits, our Farmers Fishers Bakers bar team got their cocktail on this weekend at the DC Cocktail Festival, a craft tasting event featuring some of the district’s top bartenders.
Held in the heart of DC’s historic Penn Quarter at the National Union Building, this year’s Roaring 20’s/Gatsby-themed DC Cocktail Festival featured a full day of cocktail tastings, food pairings, big band sounds, and plenty of fun.
Our FFB bar team’s table was as hopping as the Jazz Age itself. Revelers enjoyed our specially- crafted cocktail – The Marvelous Captain Spiced Cocktail – and many returned for second (and third) sips. Each team was given a liquor of choice to highlight in their cocktail. Ours was Captain Morgan. We paired this traditional spiced rum with a twist of our very own four-time award winner, Founding Spirits American Amaro, falernum (a rum-based syrup liqueur we make in-house), lime juice, mint syrup, and garnished with a lime. Our bar team, led by Distillery Director Jon Arroyo, served up some behind the scenes intel on not only our featured cocktail, but also our in-house Founding Spirits distillery, located within our sibling restaurant Farmers & Distillers, and growing selection of FS craft spirits to interested event-goers.
Another star at our table? Our hay straws. Everyday and everywhere, we are working to spread the word on the importance of eliminating single-use plastics, including straws. Having launched a campaign-turned-non-profit last year, Our Last Straw, we are always delivering our message to #StopSucking and encouraging other businesses to take the important steps to operate more sustainably and stop distributing plastic straws. Festivalgoers seemed to love not only our tasty craft cocktail, but our hay straws too.
It was a great way to spend a sunny, spring Saturday in our nation’s capital, filled with DC’s famed cherry blossoms, earth-friendly choices, and good cheer.
